BJR lays solid foundation at Adelaide 500

Supercars

Brad Jones Racing has laid a solid foundation during the opening practice session of the Adelaide 500.

The half-hour practice session saw a mix of strategy between teams but BJR elected across their four cars to only run one set of green tyres.

Helping to conserve their tyre bank for the rest of the four-day event.

Each of the four drivers struggled a little bit with a bit of rear looseness with their Camaros, but Andre Heimgartner still managed to finish the session in 10th.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro wasn’t especially happy with the changes that were made during the session and will do some homework overnight.

The #96 Camaro was 19th fastest at the end of the session.

It was rookie Jaxon Evans’ first time on the streets of Adelaide in a Supercar but he feels like the SCT Motorsport crew are also going in the right direction.

Bryce Fullwood is confident in the work that the #14 crew are doing to set themselves up for the rest of the weekend.

The Middy’s Racing garage ran through their pre-planned program and will look over the data.

Evans was 20th fastest while Fullwood was 23rd.

There’s another half-hour practice session tomorrow (13:05 ACDT/local time) before qualifying for Saturday’s race late in the afternoon (17:30).

Super2

The Super2 duo are feeling positive after their first day at the Adelaide 500.

Cody Gillis is confident going into qualifying tomorrow having not run a set of green tyres in either of the two practice sessions but still finishing Practice 2 in 11th.

On the other side of the garage, Car 19 driver Elliott Cleary has a busy weekend ahead of him.

The teen is running in both the Super2 series and TransAm and is hoping that his double duties gives him the chance to learn the tricky Adelaide circuit faster.

Cleary finished both of the sessions in 18th having also not used any green tyres in practice.

Super2 are back on track tomorrow for Race 1 Qualifying at 12:30 ACDT.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
“Really long day. Got a headache, necks sore. Cars not too bad. Rolled out okay but just struggling a bit with some rear looseness.  I think it's a good start. Looking forward to driving again tomorrow. Hopefully the tracks a bit more gripped up and we can have a better go at it.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
“Thursday done and dusted here at Adelaide. I love coming here. It's an awesome circuit and the cars are cool to drive here. We just sort of ran through our program, did a lot of race running today. Got a few things to work on but not too stressed at this point in the weekend. Looking forward to tomorrow. Obviously, we've got qualifying tomorrow so we’ll tune it up and get some speed out of it and hopefully we have a good weekend.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
“It's been a long day for a 30-minute session but reasonably happy with the car balance. The tracks are pretty green as you could imagine on a Thursday, but happy with it. Probably didn't make some of the right changes but it's information, nonetheless. Onto tomorrow.”

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #50 SCT Logistics Camaro
“It was a good start. Obviously just getting up to speed myself here having not driven here since 2018 and first time in a Supercar. Kind of feel like a bit of a broken record saying that because I said it all Gold Coast weekend, but I was pretty happy with car balance seemed okay. Came to grips with the track pretty quickly, stayed off the walls, kept it clean and I don't feel like we're too far away so slowly building. I think it's a good foundation for the rest of the weekend.”

Super2 driver, #19 Sync Music ZB Commodore
“Practice sessions are over, and it was a solid day learning the track having not raced here before. Didn’t have any green tyres but feeling confident we can qualify strong tomorrow if I put everything together.”

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 Perry's Fuel Distributors ZB Commodore
“It was a decent day. First day here obviously so the first session was a little bit daunting. Once we got through that we made a couple changes to the car and session two was a lot better. We actually didn't get to use greens in session two which we think majority of the field did. We've got a little bit a little bit of time up our sleeves there. And then obviously just a bit more time driving and finding some more confidence. I think the car's pretty good at the moment. We'll have a good day tomorrow if we put it all together.”
