Difficult day in the West for BJR

A difficult weekend in Western Australia has wrapped up for Brad Jones Racing with Race 10 another challenge for the team.

Qualifying again set up for a laborious race, Bryce Fullwood was the top of the four cars, setting a lap good enough for 13th.

The Middy’s Electrical driver took that speed into the race however didn’t have a great start and was bogged down in 14th.

His second stint, after taking rear tyres in his stop, unfortunately didn’t pay off with the car on the pushy side and Fullwood came home 17th.

Team-mate Andre Heimgartner experienced the reverse, during the opening part of the race he dropped to the near rear of the field.

After he had some fuel burn off the car came back to him and he was able to get around Fullwood and pull up some more spots, ultimately finishing 15th.

Jaxon Evans in the SCT Logistics car was looking very strong in the race but he was hit in pitlane, damaging his rear toe-link and hurting his race.

Evans finished the 55-lap affair in 18th.

Pizza Hut Racing’s Macauley Jones was unfortunately stuck in the back of the pack after a challenging qualifying session.

Jones’ car had considerable pace but with the nature of the circuit he wasn’t able to get around those ahead.

BJR will head back to base and take stock of the weekend before the next event in Darwin (14-16 June).

Super 2
It was an interesting Sunday for Cody Gillis and Elliott Cleary on the west coast in Super2.

Gillis struggled with the car during the qualifying session and ultimately finished up 19th after the second group of drivers hit the track.

During the red flagged race, the #9 Vibe Petroleum ZB Commodore gained from incidents and came home in 12th.

Cleary had strong pace during qualifying and started the race from ninth on the grid.

He unfortunately ran off the track due to dropped oil from another car resulting in the #19 Sync Music ZB Commodore finishing the race in 18th.

The Super2 Series now heads to Townsville on the 5-7th of July.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"Tough day but overall could have been worse. Just lacked qualifying speed, qualified 15th again and then start of the race really struggled but had a good solid second stint. And yeah finished 15. So I think consolidation considering the weekend and the car speed we had but need to go away, do some testing and try and figure out a few things to unlock some more speed."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"We learned a little bit in qualifying, which I think is really positive. I think that's been a weakness for us, no question. So I think we've made a little bit of inroads there and I was really happy with the qualifying today considering what we've had. The race today I think the car was quite good and it was pretty speedy but unfortunately, we just chose the wrong strategy, unfortunately and it really shot us in the foot. We were going really well to start there before the stop and just got it wrong. Really hurt the car pace after the stop and slipped down the order. So it's a shame but I think all in all, it's been a challenging weekend for us on car 14 without Phil here and looking forward to reset and Darwin."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"Really disappointed with qualifying. That's probably our key focus at the moment, race car was okay, held on to it's tyres alright but it's very hard joint to pass and we all just kind of ended up in a line to be honest. We got a bit to work on as individuals and as a group. "

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"I felt like this morning was a step forward in the right direction I guess a little bit was car balance but also like my ability to extract a bit of speed out of the tyre in qualifying. Unfortunately that was only for one session. So Q1 was good, Q2 wasn't as good.  Had a poor start in the race, the first stine the car speed felt alright I was pretty happy and then had some contact in the pit lane with another car. So a little bit slow on the stop felt like we've picked up a bit of damage and I kind of suffered from there on so, not an ideal weekend result wise. But I guess like always still some positives to take away. Still plenty to work on. I think we really need another test day under our belt, try learn some stuff and regroup as a team, go through all the data and try and find some magic sauce and go faster."

Elliott Cleary
Super2 driver, #19 ZB Commodore
"Another day of improvement. Qualified inside the top 10 and was running strong in the race untill I got caught up in an oil spill sending me back. Still a good day to know we have the speed and hopefully we can continue to improve in Townsville."

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 ZB Commodore
"Obviously not a as good of a day as yesterday. Still not too bad in the end I think we ended up about 12th in the race. Quali we just had a few little issues just didn't get on top of it and unfortunately qualified pretty far down. Probably got a bit of luck in the race but got back up there to p12. Pretty good weekend overall car looked awesome.  Thank you to Powerade Blue, Vibe Petroleum and obviously the Allen's lollies for the support.  So pretty keen for Townsville and get onto it."
