BJR with work to do ahead of Sydney night race
Brad Jones Racing’s four drivers have taken to the floodlight doused Sydney Motorsport Park for the only practice session of the weekend.
The 90-minute hit out provided the opportunity for drivers and engineers to come to terms with the cars and conditions ahead of tomorrow’s 200km race.
Andre Heimgartner’s late qualifying simulation netted him the seventh fastest spot on the time sheet as the clock hit zero.
The R&J Batteries driver set a 1:30.913, only a handful of tenths off the fastest time of the session.
Bryce Fullwood suffered from a few gremlins at the start of the session and wasn’t able to get a great feel for the car, ending up 22nd.
The Middy’s Racing crew will look over the data tonight to get the #14 Camaro in the window for qualifying tomorrow.
Similarly, The Pizza Hut Racing garage will be doing overnight homework.
Macauley Jones finished the session in 24th, traffic did play a part on his qualifying simulation but the #96 driver still feels the car needs a bit of tuning.
It was the first time Supercars rookie Jaxon Evans had been behind the wheel in the dark and the SCT Logistics driver came to grips quickly with the change of conditions.
Evans also has had a decent stint between outings at Sydney Motorsport Park, so used quite a bit of the session getting up to speed.
The driver of the #12 Camaro was 25th at session’s end.
Qualifying for Race 15 kicks off the action tomorrow at 14:50.

"So interesting day. A challenging start to the session for us but made some good tunes and hit in the right direction. So we'll just have to review the data. See what direction we want to go in for tomorrow and just try and have a fast car and qualify which is always the goal. I think the race car was quite good, we did some long race runs. But the game has changed a bit since last year. Obviously high speed track, a lot more aero so some different characteristics this year. "
Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Tough day for us here today in the 14. I just had a few sort of Gremlins at the start of the session there that we sort of couldn't get worked out. A little bit odd to be honest. Fortunately we can go home tonight look at some data and some video and stuff and try and understand what the deal is. But yeah, not too sure. But obviously, Andre wasn't too bad. So luckily, we've got something to look at tonight."
Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"Really good session, it's nice to do night racing. I really like it. It's a cool concept and hopefully the fans love it too. Need a bit of work on the drawing board to figure some stuff out."
Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"A long wait to finally get on track for our only practice session which wasn't ideal. It's awesome to get on track under lights. My first time in a Supercar driving in the night. So pretty cool. Little bit of work to do. Obviously learning again been six or seven years since I last drove here. Feeling like we're making forward progress, got to try and keep it between the white lines and not do any track limits. So I guess the timing sheets aren't representative of where where we ultimately were, but still some work to do to to keep sort of hustling to where we want to be. Do some data analysis overnight and have a big breakfast and hopefully qualify in the 10 tomorrow."
