Evans speedy on Friday of Perth Super 440

The opening day of track activity in Perth has been productive for the Brad Jones Racing team, with Jaxon Evans topping Practice 1 and top ten speed in the second session.

The SCT Motorsport driver was near three tenths clear of the closest car in the first hit out, an impressive lap time from the Kiwi.

The #12 Camaro then ended up 7th fastest in the latter practice.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing entry wasn’t too far behind, putting in a lap in P2 that had him 10th fastest.

Andre Heimgartner meanwhile fell foul of the kerb strike rules, eliminating all his fast laps in Practice 2.

The R&J Batteries driver was unfortunately 22nd at the end of the session, but there’s a lot of positivity around the speed of the car within the team.

Bryce Fullwood in the Mr Umami Racing Camaro was 18th and 17th across the two sessions.

Fullwood and the crew will have a look at the data overnight to see where they can get a bit more speed out of the car.

The BJR drivers will be on track for Qualifying for both races tomorrow at 9:45am AWST/ 11:45am AEST.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

"Interesting day here today just exploring a bit with setup but we didn't roll out too bad. Reasonably happy with the way we ended up. I got some kerb strikes on the fast laps so that's why I did go on the board, but happy so far with our progress."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Mr Umami Racing Camaro

"Little bit up down all over the place for us today. Did a few systems checks and stuff. I felt like the speed is thereabouts for the car. It's just a bit challenging to convert at the minute so just trying to work out how to make it a little bit easier for me to get the time out of it but yeah look forward to tomorrow to see what we can do."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

"First run was hard to get used to the track surface and the lack of grip and doing race running. The race running here is pretty important. I feel like it's a pretty high deg track, and slipping and sliding around all over the joint. So felt like we learned a lot from doing that and then putting the greens on - I felt like the car is pretty solid. Actually, it's pretty forgiving, which is nice. When you have a slide, you can kind of recover it, which is a good trait at the moment, but plenty of stuff to tidy up. The field spread is so close, You know you need to be onto it here so we'll review overnight, see what the team learned and regroup."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

"Really strong day. Very cool to top my first Supercars session, even though it was only practice.
So that was cool. Great way to start the weekend fastest. And then backed it up for practice two, which was probably on a bit more of a level playing field with everyone running a set of green tyres. I think we finished seventh for the day. So overall, really happy. Nice to roll out with a fast car. So big thanks to the crew for putting in a big effort between Tassie and Perth and hopefully we can continue this form and have a strong weekend. But as we know the margins super tight so it won't be easy. So we'll go do that homework."
